The Daily Item Scholarship

Andrea Rovedo of Rockport is the recipient of The Daily Item Scholarship. With family support and encouragement, Andrea believes that she can achieve whatever she puts her mind to. Her high school background included being a 3-sport athlete and member of a choral group along with receiving the Silver Award, the second highest award given in Girl Scouting. Extra curricula programs now take a back seat to working 25 - 30 hours a week to put herself through College.

Andrea has found out at a young age that giving of yourself is the rewarding part of volunteering your time and hopes to continue activities such as singing to the elderly at Den Mar Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Rockport during the holiday season.

Sean Hanlon, NSCC English instructor and academic advisor stated that Andreass classroom interaction reflects a high level of commitment to assisting others, not only in the pursuit of their immediate goals, but for the sake of her own personal development and enrichment. This is evidenced by the high level of development and exuberance she brings to group assignments. He states as her advisor, I remember being struck by how rare a student she is and the refreshing delight it was to be able to facilitate her intellectual progress.

Andrea says that she looks forward to completing her Marketing degree from NSCC in May 2010 and plans to pursue a Bachelors then Masters program.
