Honoring North Shore Businesswomen |

The Daily Item and Eastern Bank are proud to present the ninth annual North of Boston Businesswomen of the Year Awards, a regional event that honors women who have made significant contributions to their companies and the business community.
The awards specifically recognize those who have distinguished themselves in areas of character, community service, integrity and professional accomplishments.
The North of Boston Businesswomen of the Year Awards are presented in honor of Lydia E. Pinkham. Born in Lynn in 1819 and raised in the city where she became a schoolteacher, Pinkham had great business savvy and in 1875 began selling her homemade herbal remedy Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound. The business proved a phenomenal success.
Awards are given to a woman in each of three categories: small business, with 1-49 employees; large business, with 50 or more employees; and nonprofit or civic organization. In addition, The Daily Item, Eastern Bank and Atlantic Referral Exchange - Lynn Chapter BNI will each present a $1,000 scholarship to a female business student at North Shore Community College.
We congratulate all of the nominees, not only for their hard work and dedication to their field of business, but also for being role models for generations of young women; shining examples that success comes through education, patience and perseverance, said Peter H. Gamage, president of The Daily Item.
Gamage thanked the North of Boston Businesswomen of the Year Awards sponsors, especially presenting and founding sponsor Eastern Bank, for its continued support over eight years.
Eastern Bank is honored to be part of the tradition of this awards ceremony, said Richard E. Holbrook, chairman and chief executive officer of Eastern Bank. The nominees are true innovators in our region and serve as an inspiration to us all. We are committed to supporting them and all businesspeople of eastern Massachusetts as they seek to achieve their goals.
Platinum sponsor of the event this year is GE, and North Shore Community College, which hosted the event for seven years, is a gold sponsor.
North Shore Community College is honored to continue its partnership with The Daily Item along with the many sponsors who collectively support and recognize the value and impact women have as professionals on the North Shore, said Wayne Burton, president of North Shore Community College. Through education and advocacy, women are empowered to play a critical role in the economic development of our region. Congratulations to this year's nominees.
Silver sponsors are National Grid and R&L Associates, Inc., and bronze sponsor is Lynn Mayor Edward J. Clancy Jr.
Patricipating organizations include the Lynn Area Chamber of Commerce, North Shore Chamber of Commerce, Atlantic Referral Exchange-Lynn Chapter BNI, and the Marblehead Chamber of Commerce.
