LYNNFIELD -- The keynote speaker for the ninth annual North of Boston Businesswomen of the Year Awards on Nov. 5 at Spinelli's Function Facility in Lynnfield will be Andrea Cox, senior engineering manager for GE Aviation's Advanced Programs in Lynn.
Cox steps in for Maria Deacon, GE Lynn's general manager and area executive, who had to cancel after being called to a business meeting in Cincinnati that same date.
Cox is responsible for driving the development of advanced technology for GE's next-generation engine programs. She oversees key multi-million dollar projects and leads a team of engineers that interacts directly with U.S. military customers as well as GE's Global Research Center, GE supply chain facilities and major suppliers. Her leadership was instrumental in GE being awarded a large contract for the full development of an advanced turboshaft engine. She is now the program manager leading the development and execution of that program.
After earning her bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University, Cox began her GE career in 1992 when she was accepted into the company's engineering development program. She proceeded to excel and grow her technical expertise in several challenging positions with various product lines and along the way she earned her Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University and also became a certified Six Sigma Black Belt.
Cox's tremendous energy, inclusiveness and communication skills enable her to successfully empower her team to embrace change and thrive on challenges. She parlays a strong external focus and detailed understanding of product requirements into a delivering on customer requirements and value.
Cox is also passionate about getting young kids, and particularly girls, interested in technical careers. She has worked with graduating seniors at Lynn Classical to promote entry into technical careers and she has also worked with the Northeastern University's Marine Science Center in Lynn to establish a partnership with the Lynn middle schools to expose students to marine and biology/scientific experiences and potential school and career paths.
She has served as the GE Women's Network co-chair and as a volunteer for the Power Lunch reading program. She is currently the company's Northeastern Executive Recruiting Team campus coordinator and has earned multiple corporate recruiting awards.
Cox is married with two young boys, ages four and seven. She is an avid outdoor sports enthusiast who competes in triathlons, running races and bike racing. She also enjoys spending time with her family, doing anything outdoors, particularly skiing, biking and hiking.
