With 30 years’ experience in girl scouting,
Judith Wise has served as CEO of the Girl
Scouts of Spar and Spindle Council for the
past 11 years. As part of the national Girl
Scouts organization, Spar and Spindle’s mission
is to build girls of courage, confidence
and character. Spar and Spindle serves nearly
14,000 girls ages 5-17 in 51 Northeastern
Mass. communities.
Wise has helped increase Girl Scout membership by forming
collaborations with community-based agencies such as the
YWCA. In 1997, she established three branch offices to increase
accessibility and visibility in the most underserved communities.
Today, one in four girls in grades K-6 within Spar and Spindle’s
jurisdiction is a Girl Scout.
In 2002, Wise instituted an annual advocacy event in which
adults are invited to hear renowned speakers address an issue challenging
the well-being of girls. This year, the council offered the
first advocacy event for girls.
Wise has been active and supportive in the Merrimack Valley
and North Shore chambers of commerce. She is also active in the
Merrimack Valley chapter of the NAACP and the Andover Rotary.
She has 16 years’ experience in public education as a teacher,
counselor and administrator.
