As CEO of Housing Families Inc., Judy
Perlman is responsible for overseeing the
largest operator of transitional and affordable
housing for homeless families north of
Boston.
In the 20 years that Housing Families has
been in service, the agency has helped more
than 1,500 families end their homelessness.
In the six years since Perlman became CEO,
the agency’s annual budget has increased from $1.4 million to
$3.5 million. During her tenure, she has advocated for earlier
intervention and prevention of homelessness. One of her most
valuable contributions has been the construction of an affordable
housing complex in Malden for homeless families. This building,
which houses 19 families, was the direct result of Perlman’s tireless
work finding sponsors, partners and volunteers. These units,
along with shelter apartments and other affordable units, currently
serve more than 400 people.
Perlman’s work experience also includes leadership positions at
Shelter, Inc. in Cambridge, Women’s Supported Housing &
Empowerment, Inc. in Somerville, the Better Homes Fund in
Newton, American Red Cross of Massachusetts Bay in Boston,
Positive Life Styles, Inc. in Mattapan and Friends of the Shattuck
Shelter, Inc. in Jamaica Plain.
