As The Daily Item’s business officer
manager since 1992, Marian Kinney has
held a key position in the newspaper’s
managerial structure. Admired by her
fellow workers for her compassionate ear
and robust humor, she is responsible for
overseeing and executing all financial
transactions and record-keeping for the
company’s extensive customer base and
the more than 100 full- and part-time employees.
A dedicated employee of 27 years, Kinney joined The
Daily Item as a receptionist and advertising accounts receivable
supervisor in 1980. Her attention to detail and forwardthinking
soon earned her a promotion to office
manager. In that role, she helped to computerize the paper’s
entire business operations and reorganize other office
employees.
Kinney, a Lynn native and a graduate of Lynn English High
School, is an active member of the Grace United Methodist
Church, where she serves as trustee and treasurer of the
Women’s Group. She raises money for and participates in the
North Shore Cancer Society’s Walk and Relay-for Life
annually.
