
Annie Harris has served as executive
director of the Essex National Heritage
Commission since its founding in 1996.
The commission, a non-profit management
organization for the Essex National Heritage
Area, is comprised of a 125-member board
of commissioners and governed by a 25-
member board of trustees. Harris co-founded
the commission with President Emeritus
Thomas Leonard to preserve and enhance the heritage of the area
stretching from Saugus to the New Hampshire border.
With a background in real estate development and finance,
Harris served as vice president of the Langelier Company, Inc.
and Bulfinch Development Corp., both in Boston, and
Crowninshield Corp. in Peabody. She also founded and served as
president of Harris Development Corp., which built market-rate
housing on the North Shore in partnership with DeIulis
Construction Co. of Lynn.
A Salem resident, Harris served for 10 years as executive
director of the Salem Partnership, a public-private coalition of
business leaders dedicated to economic development in Salem
and the surrounding area. She currently volunteers as treasurer
for the Alliance of National Heritage Areas and serves on the
Salem Harbor Plan Committee and Zoning Board of Appeals.
